The Working Group on Climate Change and Waste Management (WGCCWM) recognizes that Climate Change is one of the most important global environmental issues facing our planet and hence advocates that the waste sector has a very important role to play. By applying circular economy principles and enhancing waste management systems, the waste sector is in the position to become a net GHG reducer. Related targets and initiatives were already initiated by the ISWA Task Force on Climate Change that was installed as WG predecessor by ISWA years back. The WG proceeds with its work by building on the accomplishments of this ISWA Task Force. The WG focusses inter alia on conveying the message that circular economy, sustainable waste management and recycling needs to be included in future international agreements.
